“Unity is not to be found in the monotony of sameness, but rather the symphony that emerges from the synchronization of diversity.” –Onslow Wilson
At The Imagination Lab, we encourage our students to explore the artist that lives within each of them. It might be through an odyssey that involves weaving other concepts like science or math into art. It could be teaching them color theory and how different combinations can make the colors in a prism. And sometimes, we bring an artist-in-residence to show their work and lead an entire grade level through activities.
This month’s artist-in-residence is Ms. Libby Givan Whipple. Libby was motivated by the quote at the top of this article, so she created a piece that incorporates it along with the symphony of different individual sketches from all of our 5th grade students. Each student created a small drawing of their choice in the squares provided, which will end up becoming a tapestry of individuality that will hang permanently in The Imagination Lab.
“We are thrilled to have Libby here to inspire and instruct our 5th grade students as they showcase the uniqueness of their artistic talents,” said Tracy Ballinger, director of The Imagination Lab.
She also worked with students on sketch techniques in a sketchbook that they can take with them and continue to foster their creativity.
Want to see more of Libby’s work? She will be showcased at a “Meet The Artist” showcase at HendricksLive!, where she will have 16 pieces that illustrate her personal stories of Hendricks County, where she was born and raised.
