We ended our day with and intense Battle of the Books competition. Students in 4th and 5th grade battled it out all morning until there were only two teams left. The 5th grade Radical Raspberry Roasters battled The 4th Grade Bookworms in the final round. Congratulations to The 4th Grade Bookworms. They will go on to compete against the winning team from each Plainfield elementary school in April. They won their own "Battleship" game as a prize from Mrs. Schwanekamp. Thank you to every student who participated.
Please join me in congratulating Karisa Schwanekamp, Guilford Elementary’s Teacher of the Year!
STEM Specialists from the IDOE visited Guilford Elementary School on Friday, March 11th to observe STEM in action. Our school has applied for STEM certification and this visit was the last step in this process. Our school will be notified if we are STEM certified, through the state of Indiana, in early May. STEM is what we do here at Guilford so we were excited to show off the learning that takes place daily. The specialists even joined in to dress up like scientists, the theme for the day. Thank you to our students and staff for going above and beyond to make this day so memorable.
Just a reminder: School is IN SESSION this Friday! In an earlier version of our school calendar, it was previously noted as a teacher development day. The calendar has since been revised and we are in school on Friday!
Fourth graders paired up with first graders and enjoyed some “Starbooks” today. Students took the lead in turning their community into a real Starbucks. They decorated, served, cleaned up after one another, and spent time reading with the customers. We could get used to this!
Mrs. Broughton’s class boarded a classroom flight to Washington DC today. They brought their boarding passes and needed carry on bags and also enjoyed snacks and beverages while learning about our capital.
First graders enjoyed a “fancy”evening out with their loved ones tonight. Fancy Nancy 2/22/2022 definitely set the bar high and students came dressed to impress. Thank you to students from Plainfield High School for taking professional photos of our families and for playing the violins throughout the evening. Fancy Nancy would be proud.
Parents of incoming Kindergarteners--this is for you!

First graders enjoyed receiving valentines from relatives who live all over the United States. Many even received notes from other countries. Students charted where their letters were mailed from and then tallied how many letters they received from each state. Students will treasure these valentines forever. Just another way Guilford teachers make learning joyful and help students apply learning to the world around them.
Mrs. Schwanekamp's 4th Grade class participated in the Heart and Sole Shoe Drive and helped Guilford Elementary collect 646 pairs of shoes!
The Heart and Sole Shoe Drive was sponsored by Hendricks County Solid Waste Management and Changing Footprints, and was designed to keep shoes out of landfills while redistributing them to homeless, disaster-stricken, or underprivileged people.
We are so proud of these students and their helping hearts!
Guilford students are 100 days smarter today. Thank you for 100 days of learning and joy. Thank you to Mrs. Stone for the awesome sign welcoming our students and families this morning.
The elves from Guilford Elementary wish you happy holidays.
Guilford Elementary had a special visit from Carol, a reindeer in training from the North Pole today. A huge shout out to Silly Safari for going the extra mile to allow all of our students to meet Carol today.
