Robotics Rules!

This year, our robotics teams have been working hard in competitions all season. We had 5 teams from our elementary schools qualify and compete at State Finals, and our PHS robotics team will compete at State this weekend.

We asked their coaches to brag about their students and teams in their own words…check it out!

Central:

Team 11999D, made up of two fourth graders and four fifth graders, took 2nd place at state in Teamwork matches out of 122 teams with a score of 121. They also placed 3rd in skills with a score of 406 out of 121 teams and were awarded with the Think award. This award recognizes the most effective and consistent use of coding techniques and programming design solutions to solve the game challenge. These accomplishments earned them a spot at Worlds in Dallas, TX in May where they will compete with teams from around the world. Way to go!

Brentwood:

Brentwood had three teams (RoboSkittles, Robohounds, and The Gadget Girlz) qualify for VEXIQ State Championship on March 22nd!

Congrats to two of Brentwood's teams, Robohounds and The Gadget Girlz for qualifying for the VEXIQ Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas on May 12-14 from their amazing skills scores at the State Championship!

At the State competition, out of 122 of the best elementary teams in Indiana, The Gadget Girlz placed 15th and Robohounds placed 30th to make it to finals. Both teams placed 10th out of 32 teams in finals. Robohounds placed 7th in skills and The Gadget Girlz placed 10th.

Guilford:

Team 6440C is a team consisting of one 5th grader and two fourth graders at Guilford Elementary. They recently changed their team name to “The Gear Punks”.

This team has worked all season to implement the Engineering Design Process to build a robot that could successfully play the VEX IQ game Rapid Relay. They participated in several competitions throughout the season and came back from each competition motivated to improve their original robot design. Their hard work paid off when they won the TeamWork Champion Award at the Pyre Plainfield Competition (with a finals score of 95) and Skills Champs Award (with a score of 296) in February earning them the opportunity to compete with the best teams in Indiana at the State competition in March. They met the challenge and qualified for the Worlds Championship with their Skills score of 416 points, earning 2nd place out of 125 elementary teams. This was a combined score that included their driving ability and autonomous programming code that they created.

The boys work wonderfully as a team! They recognize each other’s strengths and weaknesses and collaborate in a beautiful manner. They do a great job supporting and building each other up. The extra work and practice they have put into this season is truly commendable!

All three schools will be doing fundraising and seeking out sponsorship to help support our students and coaches for this exciting opportunity and experience going to Dallas for Worlds. Look for more information from Brentwood, Central, or Guilford or reach out to the coaches to see how you can support these World qualifying teams.

Robotics State

PHS:

The PHS FIRST Robotics team here has won its first blue banner over spring break, by winning the Lafayette district event.  This qualifies the team for the state championship this upcoming weekend at Center Grove High School.

No matter what group or competition they faced, we’re so proud of these robotics teams for such amazing seasons!

Let’s keep cheering for the PHS team in State Championships this weekend, and for our elementary level teams that qualified for Worlds in May!
