Care Packages For Heroes

This week, the Plainfield Wagon Trail Girl Scouts took on a significant project in support of our community’s National Guard unit, which is preparing for deployment. This troop was tasked with assembling 600 snack bags for these brave service members. With numerous news stories highlighting their upcoming deployment, it was an honor for us to contribute in this meaningful way.

The response from the community was overwhelming. All five Plainfield elementary schools participated in collecting items for the snack bags. Each school sent home a graphic detailing what items were needed, ensuring all students had the opportunity to contribute and a thank-you graphic was sent to each of the school principals, acknowledging their school's involvement in this project.

Thursday night, these Girl Scouts, along with their families, came together to assemble the bags. The event was a true reflection of our community of values.. We had 19 Girl Scouts, along with their families, working diligently to pack the bags. Remarkably, we completed all 600 bags, along with handwritten notes of encouragement, in just two hours.

In total, we packed over 9,000 items into the snack bags, with the schools providing 1,500 of these items. The generosity and enthusiasm from our community were truly inspiring. Special thanks to the PCSC staff members who were on-site to assist, including the spouse of a National Guard member who is part of the deployment.

This project was a powerful demonstration of how our community can come together to support those who serve. The Plainfield Wagon Trail Girl Scouts, along with our community, are proud to send off our National Guard with a small token of our appreciation and well-wishes.
