Our performing arts programs are a vibrant and essential part of student life at Plainfield. About 35% of 7th and 8th graders and 25% of high schoolers choose to participate in band, orchestra, and choir. They prioritize these classes and arrange their schedule to make sure they can be involved. This amount of dedication proves students’ passion for music, but what else does it show?
Research shows that fine arts education can have an impact in ways that go beyond just learning to play an instrument or sing. Participants in performing arts see significant academic gains like improved cognitive skills, better focus, discipline, and creative problem-solving. Learning viola could help you do better on a math test? Who knew?
Our mission of bringing joy to learning is evident in these programs, which support self-expression, personal development, and academic achievement. Whether students dream of becoming professional musicians or simply find joy in performing, our performing arts classes enrich their lives and create unique opportunities for growth.
In our band, orchestra, and choir programs, students gain more than just musical skills. These activities teach intangible lessons like teamwork, time management, effective communication, prioritization, and perseverance.
Performing well in a concert that you practiced for? Awesome. Seeing all your hard work being recognized at the state level as some of the best that Indiana has to offer? Practically priceless. Many of these students will end up in careers that aren’t related to their time spent in our performing arts programs, but the life skills they learned and the feelings of accomplishment? Those will live on.
